History:
The tradition of dance has been codified and written during the period between 200 BCE and 200 CE in the Natyashastra and a performance is considered accomplished if it manages to evoke a rasa (emotion) among the audience by invoking a particular bhava (gesture or facial expression). In addition Contemporary dance in India encompasses a wide range of dance activities currently performed in India. It includes choreography for Indian cinema called Bollywood. With the introduction of sound to cinema in 1930, choreographed dance sequences became ubiquitous in Indian films.
